Makeup Fail? Makeup Win?

This is what goes down when I attempt a makeup tutorial or a makeup contest. eyeshadow on....eyeshadow off....different eyeshadow on...take it off...try matte eyeshadow...take a photo...looks like crap...wet wipe...shimmer eyeshadow...take a photo...hmmm okay...apply eyeliner...screw it up...spend fifteen minutes fixing...give up...wet wipe again....try again...don't screw up the eyeliner Melissa!... take a photo...oh yeah... do tutorial... clean face....sore eyes :(....makeup room bomb site.....

I'm still learning and practicing, the important thing is that I never give up (except when my eyes hurt too much) what is your makeup journey like?

Haul blog and first impressions...

Hi bloggers,

I haven't written a blog in a while, its been a bit busy around here, I can't believe I will be finished with my studies in less than one month...whoa. Anywho on to my other passion....Makeup! I don't get to buy things all too often...well because I am a broke ass student thats why. But I did save some dosh and splurged a little online. the first thing I would like to blog about is:

My new fave foundation and black khol liner by Maxfactor. I am using the colour adapt foundation in the skin tone sand and the eyeliner is in 020 black. This foundation rocks my world...or my face i guess. Cos i bought it on ebay i was a tad worried about the colour match, but this stuff just blends into my skin = awesomeness! the eyeliner just glides on, my mother in law bought me a $20 freaking dollar eyeliner from estee lauder <----Crapola! this one cost me $5 and it is amazing....

Onto another eyeliner of a different sort.... Revlon colourstay liquid eye pen (aka one of those graffiti art pen thingies) the colour is blackest black, i paid 20 freaking dollars for this one... I'm a bit disappointed in it to tell you the truth, its tends to fade pretty quick, its a little hard to apply as well, ( I have used other graffiti pens before..okay just one) but i will keep using it, well because i paid 20 freaking dollars for it. waste not want not!

All i have to say is...i heart red cherry lashes :) thats it mkay. I bought these from www.crushcosmetics.com.au they have all the American brands of makeup at cheapo prices.

Next is some brushes i ordered from crown brush Australia. I heard about them because every guru on YT was pimping them during IMATs (by the way i totally missed out on the Australian IMATs) so i jumped on the site and began click clinking and a week later i had five new brushes to add to my collection.. the one thats still in its wrapper is for my sister (one trip to Sydney and now she wants to copy me in my makeup obsession) so i bought the: C200 Deluxe crease brush, C153 large chisel fluff, C160-1/4 angled brow brush, and the C217 bent liner brush. I am quite happy with the quality and prices. wish i bought some more (sad face) I really love the C153 its my fave at the mo. they are a bit on the short side, they hide among my taller brushes.

Lastly is a ebay store that i really like. Earth-glo cosmetics sell mineral makeup, the first thing i ever bought from them was a brush cleaner and it rocked my brushes world! they didnt have any is stock this time.. (more sad face) anywho when i had bought that brush cleaner i got some free samples, which was cool cos i only bought one thing and i still got samples, there was this blush that i really liked, so i bought that this time. I bought two blushes: lovely & Berrylicious, i also bought an eye primer to test out. guess what i got more bloody samples too, i think this seller just wants me to buy more stuff. Lovely is such a nice blush, it has a slight shimmer which i think adds a nice highlight, Berrylicious is a matte finish and a bit lighter too.

So that was my small haul, i am also waiting for two 15 eyeshadow palettes from Ruthless cosmetics and some soaps from Bubblebabez. might do another haul when those arrive. If you have read my blog thanks for dropping by. toodle noodle.

Sick of F*$king Youtube MU contests!

Well I've pretty much given up on contests at the moment. I dont see the fucking point anymore. I entered a contest recently for Bitchslap Cosmetics True Blood contest. Obviously this means a vampire look or something pertaining to the True Blood Tv series. So i put on my freaky violet contacts, did too seperate looks (one sexy smokey eye, one dead rocker chick) i let fake blood drip down my chin and my cheeks (in effect crying tears of blood). I struggled with cheesy fangs. And as I watched all the other entries, i felt that i had made more effort then others. guess what happened? someone else won, why? because her makeup looked more vampirey... (fucking load of crap)

I checked out her video too, she made her eyebrows straight, added  shadows under her eyes, some swirly patterns  on her forehead and paled her skin tone. Well sorry I am naturally caramel and cannot be whitey Mc Frighty! I cant believe they picked her? I supported BSC even after all the bullshit about the pigments being dangerous just because they sunk to the bottom of water. I even defended them and i still will. I am just disappointing and disenchanted with it all.

I dont give a damn about winning prizes, i just want to be recognised as having a talent, to be good enough to win a MU contest. that would make me happy. Maybe I'll just do tutorials for a while, I'm getting a new camera soon so it will wait until then.

busy busy busy,.....

Hi blog,

I haven't been on here much, had so many drama's going on with my personal life; first I've had to fly my dad up here to the Northern Territory, he was evicted, he has alshiemers. Now I'm his carer. But before he moved, my friend, her boyfriend and baby are staying at my house because she had a fight with her dad. I'm a selfless person I wouldnt turn them out on the street. soooo they are sleeping in the room thats supposed to be my dads, he's in me and my partners room whilst we sleep on the sofa. I'm waiting til they figure out what they are doing or going to doing. Meanwhile my back is killing me from the stupid sofa. I spend my days cooking and cleaning after five people....

So I havent had the time or inclination to play with makeup at the moment, I havent even written anything new, I'm supposed to respond to an email sent by my mentor with new edits but its bloody hard with a full house of people and me taking care of everyone. I feel like I'm a domesticated wife lol. Nothing ever goes according to plan for me!

Anywho, I've ordered some theatrical makeup from ebay; some fake blood, morticians wax, liquid latex. starting to get into the special effects side of makeup. going to enter a sci fi makeup contest soon, my inspiration is the tv show V (the visitors) i love that show!

I also got an honorable mention for a contest i did for MissDeenaDiva, woot woot, i wish i could win one contest though. oh well.

so thats my life in the here and now......

Sexy Smokey Eyes...

So I recently found out from a MU Guru on YT, that smokey eyes are ment to be gradient. So it should be from darker colour to light colour, starting from the lashline. So everyone that does the smokey eye with the outer corner darker is apparently doing it wrong. According to this guru those smokey eyes have smokey qualities but are not the original smokey eye. LOL anywho I had a go at the original version for a contest. I had to create a sexy smokey eye, the colour i chose was maroon or plum. I think this is a sexy colour, its warm and deep. If I had a car it would be this colour!

TKB.com haul

So i discovered this site when pursebuzz, the makeup guru on YT did a video. I went straight to the site and after looking at their collection made my order. it arrived in one week which is awesome since it came all the way from America. the pigments are so light and feathery, they glide on smooth and blend really well. I am most of all happy with the price, a whole sample bag for less then $3, and the ounces i got were under $10!

check out the video for more info.

Writing, mentor and makeup

Hey,

soooo, I'm in my final year of study, people believe being a writer is easy, you just sit at home all day and write, right? Well actually its alot harder then they think. The genre I chose to do my major work in is young adult ficition. I now have a mentor who is a published author in Australia in said genre. I feel overwhelmed that he wants to work with me and a little scared too. I mean, I'm just a student, yeah I'm published in a journal but not really really published...

So I send him what I have so far which is about 4k words, he sends back his comments about format and all that (indenting paragraphs and dialogue structure) I format it send it to my Lecturer to go over and she says 'hey, before we send it back lets really edit it, really rip it apart' yep I was scared, this was already my 4th draft. so when i collect it from her, i'm kinda weary when i see all the slashes and strokes, the comments in the margins. it would make anyone queasy. but i keep on keepin on. after two days i really made a breakthrough woot woot! i sent it back to my lecterur and she made a few more suggestions. so now its going to my mentor, i'll remain humble and not think i'm the shit. cos well, its nice to know we dont know everything. its good to know we have much to learn and grow from.

i know this year is going to be full on for me, its going to be filled with deadlines and me pulling my hair out --- my protagonist is apparently passive said my lecturer....

so when stress gets the better of me, i turn to another creative artform... MAKE UP hehe.

Makeup is my outlet, makeup gives me a chance to have fun and be creative, makeup is my saviour. I'd just like to vent a little --- I have been a big fan of the Makeup/beauty community on Youtube and its gurus, what i am not a fan of is TROLLS! i dont have any, i'm really just a beginner, but i loathe seeing hatefull inane comments in response to videos that gurus make, especially talented, nice and wonderful people. These trolls, haters and nasty people leave stupid comments that really have no point being written, they ask gurus if they have lives, or if they go outside in dramatic makeup and such. for one thing of course these people have lives! and such lives dont revolve around YT. YT is simply and extention of their profession, a creative outlet, or even to gain skills and learn tips. what right does it gives trolls to question this, and further more what the heck are they doing commenting on something they obviously dont like? Why did they take the time to click a thumbnail, watch an entire video and then think up some inane comment? do they have lives? or do they simply want attention? these people should do the most logical thing -- click off and move on with their own lives.

okay so that was my vent

On other matters, I'm having my first makeup contest for my subbies, hope i get lots of entries, yay fun!

Assignment deadlines...just great.

Well, i just got back from a workshop in Kathrine (dont know where that is? google is your friend) anywho, i finished one assignment while i was there, and took notes for my other two assigments. I hate choosing social science as my minor, its hard to switch styles of writing, from going to creative styles then to academic.

I have three assigments due before May arrives, one needs 15 references! that one is due in 2 days, i think i will practically be living at the library... they do have a couch there hehe :)

Photos of looks I have sent in to Bitch-slap cosmetics (Weekly competition)
